“The Orpheus Project”
Traditional Theater For a New Age

Jacksonville, Fla. – Jacksonville University is proud to present “The Orpheus Project,” an integrated media performance based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.

With a cast and crew including 14 faculty and 85 students, the ensemble work crosses all disciplines in the College of Fine Arts and one in Humanities (music, dance, theatre, visual arts, film, sculpture and literature).

“The Orpheus Project will take the classical arts and make them accessible to a new generation of theatre goers,” said Brian Palmer, professor and division chair of theatre and dance. “It’s a new look at a classical piece through contemporary means.”

World-premiere creations will include new compositions in music, dance, poetry and scenic designs. During the three nights of completely live performances by all areas, there will be pre-show lectures by art history, English and philosophy professors along with a lobby gallery showing studio art created by students.

“We want to create an event, even more of a festival atmosphere, for the show,” said Robert Tudor, professor and division chair of music. “It’s breaking the mold of how we present public performances.”
